Bedeuten Kinder Smartwatches Überwachung?

Data protection and privacy are becoming increasingly important in our transparent world. This is a particularly sensitive issue when it comes to our little ones. Many parents therefore want to keep their children safe, for example with a children's smartwatch. Find out here when online monitoring becomes a problem, how Anio's children's watch monitoring protects privacy and can help keep your child safe!

When does online monitoring become problematic?

Monitoring becomes a problem when it significantly infringes on privacy. Why? Because monitoring has side effects, such as restricting your child's freedom. Since children usually cannot yet assess how much they should reveal about themselves, the internet can become dangerous. This is because data is collected on the internet. If a child is careless, malicious third parties can use certain information to their advantage.

How Anio protects your child's privacy

Because safety is a top priority, especially for children, the Anio 5 features a practical children's watch monitoring system with safety features. All Anio servers are located in Germany. The children's smartwatch does not have standard internet access, which prevents your child from having unprotected access to unsafe websites. In addition, 10 numbers can be stored in the watch, and only these can be called from the watch, and the watch can be called back. This prevents strangers from contacting your child.

Safe on the go with the GPS function

The Anio children's smartwatch is located in two different ways. Outdoors, the smartwatch has access to GPS satellites. The position calculated from this is marked as a red icon on the map in the Anio app. Inside buildings, the watch usually has no GPS reception, as a line of sight to at least 3 satellites is required.
Therefore, inside buildings, the children's smartwatch scans for available Wi-Fi networks. The names of these Wi-Fi networks are then sent to the Anio server, which uses a Google interface to determine the watch's position. Google knows the locations of almost all Wi-Fi routers. If the watch receives at least 3 different Wi-Fi networks, Google can provide our server with the watch's position. The location is then displayed to you as a green Wi-Fi logo on the app map.

The Anio 5 features an SOS button that, after being pressed for 3 seconds, calls three emergency contacts until someone answers. It also sends the last determined GPS position to the emergency contacts via SMS.

It is important to know that only the watch itself knows the position calculated by GPS. It does not know its Wi-Fi position, as this position is only transmitted to the Anio app and not back to the watch. The position in the app can therefore be more up-to-date than the data from the SOS message you receive via SMS.
