What is Halloween really about?
Halloween originally comes from Ireland, not from the USA as many people think. Halloween can be traced back to the Celtic festival of Samhain. The Celts celebrated the end of summer and welcomed winter. They thanked the sun god Samhain for the year's bountiful harvest and also commemorated the souls of the deceased on that day. The Celts believed that on this night, the spirits of the dead returned to earth to return to their homes. Nothing good could be expected from homeless souls who could not find their way. They frightened people and caused trouble for them. That is why the Celts dressed up so that the spirits and homeless souls would not recognize them. This is how the custom of dressing up began.
