What is HejLab?
HejLab was created by Stefanie, a mother of two daughters, to promote the safe and mindful use of social media, the internet, and especially a child’s first smartphone. The Anio version “50 Ideas for Mobile Heroes” consists of 50 cards with quiz questions and challenges across six categories, helping your child learn about phones and apps safely. The game is suitable for children aged 8 and up.
In addition to the cards, the game includes a parent guide with a checklist and a mobile pass where points can be recorded and which also serves as a Mobile Hero certificate. The game helps your child acquire all the necessary knowledge about safety, phone features, my and your rights, advertising and costs, well-being, as well as messengers and social media, giving them the best possible start in the digital world.
Why your child should play the educational card game
The internet offers a vast amount of data and information. Even some adults find it difficult to navigate. 50 Ideas for Mobile Heroes can provide children with the support they need to find their way in the online world for the first time. The game explains the dangers and potential difficulties your child may face when first using phones, social media, and the internet, and helps them avoid them. Plus, it’s really fun!
How it works
Before you start, you can open the information brochure and scan the QR code inside. It will take you to a video that briefly explains how the game works. You can also find this video here. Before your child can start playing, the safety settings on the phone must be configured. You can also find out how to do this in the enclosed information brochure.
Your child doesn’t have a phone yet? No problem.
The cards marked with a star can also be played without using a smartphone. You can record the points earned in the mobile pass; once your child has earned 10 out of 10 points in all categories, they can proudly call themselves a Mobile Hero. In the information brochure, you’ll find a QR code that takes you to a certificate for your child, which you can easily print out. Now you can start playing.
Our tip: The safety category is the best place to start!
A few examples from the game
To give you a better idea of what the game cards look like, here are two examples:
This card from the Phone Features category, titled “Everything Planned”, uses relatable everyday situations to introduce the phone’s calendar and clock functions. On the back is a “Don’t Laugh” challenge in which your child sets a timer for 30 seconds and tries to make their fellow players laugh before time runs out.
The card “Do You Know Your Rights?” from the My and Your Rights category is a quiz about the topics covered on the other cards in that category. This way, you can review the knowledge you’ve gathered together. At the end of the question-and-answer game, you can assess the points earned. You’ll find the answers in small print along the bottom edge of the card.
